Mini Zoo in Amirthi Woods
Time to lift to Amirthi little zoo more space for creatures
Amirthi Zoo Was
Established in 1967, the smaller than expected zoo has three types of turtles,
a star tortoise, porcupines, 53 spotted deer, two pelicans, water winged
animals, two pelicans, water birds, love birds, nine peacocks, two crocodiles, three
noxious snakes and rabbits.
The smaller than expected zoo in the Amirthi timberlands in
Vellore area has been redesigned at an expense of Rs. 2.5 crore endorsed by the
Chief Minister J Jayalalitha.
Forest Department
With the endorsed trusts, the Forest Department has set up
three new deer fenced in areas, one peacock walled in area, one nook for water
flying creatures, and two nooks for snakes one for harmful snakes, and the
other for non-toxic snakes all of which have been built up with satisfactory
space according to the regulations of the Central Zoo Authority.
Facilities
Limit dividers have been given on three sides, and fencing
on one side of the zoo so as to keep the passage of stray dairy cattle and wild
deer from outside the zoo. The new walled in areas have been given set up of
the old nooks which were excessively confined for the creatures. A unified park
with garden, guests' resting sheds and youngsters' play zone have been shaped
inside the zoo. A guests' pathway is being framed in such a route as not to
fell existing trees keeping in mind the end goal to save the regular habitat.
The new walled in areas too have been set up without felling trees keeping in
mind the end goal to save the normal living space of the creatures and
fledglings. Drinking water offices have been accommodated the guests.
Remodel Plan
As per a Forest Department official, the remodel would deal
with the needs of the current creatures and fledglings. New creatures like Tigers and wild animals from vandalur zoo has to be immported and
fledglings would be obtained just at the season of the extension of the zoo in
the succeeding periods of the 10-year venture. The current creatures and winged
animals would be moved to the new walled in areas inside of a week
